Tiziano Bernard is an FAA Gold Seal CFI and 2026 AOPA National Best Instructor with more than 1,800 hours of flight instruction experience. The Gold Seal is the FAA's highest certification for flight instructors. The AOPA award is the highest civilian recognition in the industry. What that means for you: you're training with an instructor who has been reviewed, tested, and recognized as the best in the country — not just the best in Savannah. He knows the checkride inside out. He knows where students get stuck. And he knows how to get you to pass on the first attempt.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Private Pilot Training FAQ
What's the difference between Part 61 and Part 141?
Part 141 is a structured, FAA-approved curriculum with a defined syllabus and minimum hour requirements — it's what you'd find at a professional flight academy. Part 61 is more flexible but typically requires more total hours to certify. At Savannah Aviation, our Part 141 program gets you licensed faster and with a clear roadmap from day one. No wondering what comes next.
What's your FAA checkride pass rate?
92% of our students pass on the first attempt — significantly above the national average. We attribute this to mandatory mock oral exams and structured checkride prep in the final two weeks of training. We track every student's readiness. You don't sit the checkride until you're ready to pass it.
How long does it take to get a private pilot license?
On our Part 141 structured program, most students complete training in 6–8 months. Timeline depends on how often you fly each week. We offer morning, evening, and weekend availability so you can move at the pace that fits your life.
How much does it cost in total?
All-in: $12,500 – $15,000. This covers ground school ($1,500), flight training ($10,000–$12,000), and checkride prep ($500). No hidden fees. No surprise costs. You know the full number before you start.
Do you offer financing or payment plans?
Yes. Payment plans start from $299/month. Terms vary by financing partner. Click the financing button in the pricing section to check your options. VA benefits and eligible scholarships are also accepted — call us at (912) 964-1022 to confirm before enrolling.
Can I try it before I commit to a full program?
Yes. Our $159 Discovery Flight lets you take the controls over Savannah with a certified instructor — no experience needed, no commitment required. Most of our PPL students started with a discovery flight. It's the best way to know if flying is for you before you invest in a full program.
What aircraft do you train in?
Savannah Aviation trains students in a diverse fleet of Cessna, Piper, and Cirrus aircraft, including modern avionics-equipped trainers.
Do I need a medical certificate before I start?
You'll need a valid FAA Third-Class Medical Certificate before your first solo flight. We recommend getting it before you start ground school so there are no surprises. We can point you to an Aviation Medical Examiner (AME) in the Savannah area.
