Ways to Pay: Military & VA Funding Options

1. Chapter 33 – Post-9/11 GI Bill®

The most comprehensive benefit for modern veterans. This program is designed for maximum support and ease of use.

  • The Benefit: The VA pays the school directly.
  • Coverage: Covers 100% of approved flight training costs up to the national annual cap.
  • Current Annual Cap: Approximately $17,097.67 (Resets every August 1st).
  • Pro-Tip: This is the strongest funding option for career-track pilots.

2. Chapter 30 – Montgomery GI Bill (MGIB)

A reliable reimbursement-based program for veterans who opted into the MGIB.

  • The Benefit: The VA pays you directly (reimbursement).
  • Coverage: The VA reimburses 60% of approved flight training costs, up to the annual cap.
  • Important Note: Students pay the school upfront and receive reimbursement checks from the VA.

3. Active Duty & Reserve Credentialing Assistance (CA)

Currently serving? You don't have to wait until you're out to start your ratings. We accept:

  • AFCOOL (Air Force)
  • Army CA / Reserve CA / National Guard CA

How it works: These programs typically pay approved certification costs directly to the school. Funding limits vary by branch.

The Veteran’s Roadmap:
4 Steps to Take Flight

01

Determine Your Eligibility

Visit the VA website or contact your Education Services Officer (ESO) to confirm your remaining benefits and obtain your Certificate of Eligibility (COE).

02

Obtain Your Medical Certificate

Visit an authorized Aviation Medical Examiner (AME). To use VA benefits for flight training, you generally need a 2nd Class Medical certificate.

03

Meet Our VA Certifying Official

Schedule a tour of our Savannah facility. We will review your COE, discuss your goals (Instrument, Commercial & CFI), and build your training plan.

04

Start Training

Once cleared, you’ll be paired with a Certified Flight Instructor to begin your journey toward your ratings.

At Savannah Aviation, efficiency comes from smart structure and disciplined training, not shortcuts, so you graduate as a capable, confident pilot ready for real-world flying.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use my benefits for a Private Pilot License?
Typically, VA flight benefits are applied to "add-on" ratings (Instrument, Commercial, etc.) after you have earned your Private Pilot License. However, certain programs and AFCOOL/Army CA may have different requirements. Contact us to discuss your specific situation.
When does the funding cap reset?
The VA national annual cap resets every year on August 1st. This is a "use it or lose it" benefit for the year, so early planning is essential.
Does Savannah Aviation provide housing?
While we do not have on-site barracks, we are located in one of the most veteran-friendly regions in the country and can provide recommendations for local housing.
